Although the Swift hatchback came onto the market in 2005 with a redesigned interior and exterior, the supermini has now sold in excess of 1 million units. The Swift was first built in Japan, followed by Hungary, China, India and more recently Indonesia and Malaysia.
Vehicles sold in Europe are built at Suzuki’s plant in Hungary which has so far pushed out more than 306,000 units.
The Swift range consists of the 3dr and 5dr hatchback, 3dr Sport (Europe) and 5dr Sport (Australia and Japan) and the 4dr Swift sedan (Dzire). The vehicle is due a facelift in 2009.
